science project

So I am a procrastinator in some things, and not in others. School projects are a definate procrastinated thing in my life, and unfortunately I have passed this on to my son. Tomarrow is the science fair. Are we done yet? No! Have we started? Yes. Do I have the foggiest idea how to get my son to do the project? No! Am I questioning my logic when I agreed to let him sign up? . . . No. Its good for us regardless of how stressful , right?

Did I try to take pictures to put on his project board? yes. Luckily we can still bring stuff in the morning to school so we have a fun family project in store for tonight. Yeah!! Here is Ethan in his science project debut.
The challenge was to build and egg drop out of toothpicks, Popsicle sticks, straws or glue. Or all of the above. so far we got straws and glue and we ran out of straws. Matt is picking up supplies on his way home from work. They will be dropped from a ladder, and all the survivors get dropped from a helicopter. To quote Ethan "' It looks like trash falling out of the helicopter". To quote Mom "Essentially it is". Hehehe
We will let you know how it goes. Until then we will get pack to gluing. toodles!

SNOW DAY #1

Okay so I know everyone has been bombed my the snow this year, except for us. But last night it started snowing here, and kept snowing, and we woke up to a late start announcement for school because of our skiff of snow. So we are excited and the kids have been playing in it every minute they can. So I guess officially its only a half snow day, but hey we take what we can get. We were full on headed into spring with tulips and daffodils, and got our first super snow of the winter, crazy.

The picture on the top was last night when it started to the kids hustled to get out for snow experience, and then we woke up to it snowing still and five inches was unheard of for our area. The kids ate breakfast and went out again, and have been playing in it for hours.

So while some of you may groan at the thought of another snowstorm, we are living it up here in the pacific northwest, wahoooooooooooooooo!!!

walking in someone elses shoes for the day. . .

You could imagine it might be quite difficult to get around in this state. Mckay is actually quite proficient. If I knew how to put video feed on this blog, I could show you. But nonetheless I am still learning, thus, you will have to wait until I am the master of the blog, ha ha. (that was my evil laugh). We also have an unbelievable clip of mckay as a baby feeding himself froot loops with a straw that he picks them up with. Talk about eye hand coordination, watch out. If it sounds like I am bragging about this child, I am, he is brilliant. end of story.

Freezing our Buns off at the Beach

Yes we went to the beach and froze our buns off, But it was fun and the kids got soaked playing in the water. They love it even if they were turning blue. There was frost on the ground this morning , but we went anyway. Sand is sand, and water is water regardless the temperature.
Do You Think Grandpa looks cold?????? He didn't know I was taking this picture, I zoomed, hee hee.
Congrats to Kassie, our baby sister, who found out she is having a boy for her first. I bet Shad is thrilled. What a new and exciting time for your family. We are so happy for You. When Are you going to join the blog world???????? You need to show off some of your photography. I would love to see some.

Easter Eggs

So Diane and Helen dyed Easter eggs with the kids. Funny enough, we haven't done it for a few years, so they thought it was the best thing ever (I have been a slacker in years past). So I have a question. . . "Where did the Easter Bunny come from?" How did we get a Bunny from the Atonement? Just wondering, if anyone has the answer I will listen.
We have early church so we let the Easter bunny come Saturday morning, that was the greatest thing ever. I am so glad we didn't do it before church.

How Do You Know. . .??

When a redneck has a DUI?

Meridee thanks for the follow up story. I Love it!! This is the perfect followup to our Roping a deer story. Definately gotta love venison to get to this point. Speaking of Love of Venison. . .

I was driving with my nephew and he was asked his favorite food. I was expecting "pizza", but got "definately elk venison". There's a new one for you. His favorite wii game, Cabella's of course. He is so cute with his love of camo. Gotta love it.

Yeah for Teachers

Parent teacher conference was last night and I looooove ethan's teacher. She is amazing. I will forever compare every teacher to Mrs. Bond. Everyone here has warned me how horrible public school is (there are many private schoolers around). I have to say after Ethan's kindergarten experience I would have agreed. But Mrs. Bond has redeemed my faith in public school. She knows how to work with kids and get them somewhere. So today I guess is my Yeah for Teachers!!! Or better yet "yeah for teachers that CARE!!!" Its a big job, and they do a fabulous job. Thankyou!

The B word

And I don't mean buddy#$%^&*
Yah, let's chalk it up to a first in motherhood. Some neighborhood boys were using some choice words while ethan was around. Sooooo he decided to try the b word out. Unfortunate or should I say lucky for him I was in earshot. He hadn't the slightest clue what it meant, but it definately threw me for a loop. We had a long discussion about why we don't use swear words. These are the days I am glad I am able to stay at home with my kids. Who would have taught him or caught him should I not have been around. This is the reason I prefer kids to come over to play at our house even though my house gets trashed.

Quiet Toys

Okay, so I love quiet toys to take once in a while to church. The magnets are great too for sticking in the book or on the metal chairs in the back. Gotta love it. A while back after finding a variety of magnetic paperdoll like items at the thrift store, I thought "It would be great to have book of mormon themed maget sets for church". It was so brilliant. . . and after some research. . . . . to my dismay they had already been done. I found these online at Hammond Toys in Utah. I think they are 9.99
I try to be a little more proactive if I get an idea ever since last year on t.v. when I saw a piece done about a mom who made millions off of juice box covers. YOu Know when every small child is handed a juicebox or capri sun and they squeeze it. And it ends up everywhere but where it was intended. When ethan was a baby I had wanted to make the same thing, slightly different design, but never seriously persued it. You never know. . . when an idea will be a hit, right?

A very Merry UnBirthday

So today is the day of our "Mad Hatter RS Very UnBirthday Party". I have been a little stressed getting everything done, because our E. leader had to leave town for a family emergency, and not much had been planned and it was two weeks away. I was only put in as the enrichment counselor about a month ago. One of those weeks was stake Conference. So like the tender mercies I talked about before, I feel like I have had several lately, our hfpe leader is back in town just in time for my kids to all have the stomach flu. I don't even know if I will be able to attend tonight. She has taken everything back over, and I am relieved. I thought it was a one day flu until mckay started up again last night.

Luckily matt is able to work from home, yeah Nintendo!! I wouldn't be able to do another day of monitoring four kids stomachs alone. I hope it ends soon.
I got the Mad Hatter idea from Sugar Doodle, for those of you who don't know what it is click on it. I love it for quick ideas for church. www.sugardoodle.net

Tender Mercies

DO NOT READ IF YOU ARE SENSITIVE TO VOMIT STORIES

You know you have arrived at motherhood, when bad things start to seem not so bad.
so we spent an hour and a half in the car going to the dentist who is less than twenty miles from our house, but traffic was at a standstill. Before we left mkcay was acting like he might puke. yeah. So I go to the dentist and two hours later matt picks me up with the kids. He had taken them to the store to run errands while I was at the Dentist. Mckay was acting fairly normal. I was meeting our enrichment leader at the church to go through the closet, and then we headed home. As soon as we get home I sit mckay at the table, he pukes everywhere. Now I tell you this story because normally I would have had a "this sucks" day. But considering all the things I got done and that I wasn't cleaning puke out of the car or off the church carpet I felt very fortunate.

Super Glue

Just in case any one was wondering if superglue is okay to eat. . .

It is, because I sure enough had to call poison control yesterday when Mckay found a tube and opened it and sucked on it. I caught him in the act luckily, we held his mouth open until it was set, trying to get as much off as possible. He has got a chunk behind his teeth and on the top of his mouth. This child is going to give us a run for our money.

Poison control said it is non toxic and will wear off in a few days, just in case you were wondering for the next time you decide to eat super glue.

mckay wants to be a big kid

So Mckay has decided that he wants to sleep in the big bed with Hayden at night, which suprisingly he does very well. He will just lay down and go to sleep so he won't be put in the crib. So when I put him down for a nap and he was hysterically upset that I hadn't put him in the big boy bed I let him lay on the big bed. To my suprise he just layed down and went to sleep.
What a crazy kid. He has been so different than the others, always wanting to do what they do.

For all my deer friends in Idaho

Sorry I couldn't resist, I am from Idaho and must share the Love.

Roping A Deer...(Names have been removed to protect the stupid!) Actual Letter from someone who writes, and farms! I had this idea that I was going to rope a deer, put it in a stall, feed it up on corn for a couple of weeks, then kill it and eat it. The first step in this adventure was getting a deer. I figured that, since they congregate at my cattle feeder and do not seem to have much fearof me when we are there (a bold one will sometimes come right up and sniff at the bags of feed while I am in the back of the truck not 4 feet away), it should not be difficult to rope one, get up to it and toss a bag over its head (to calm it down) then hog tie it and transport it home. I filled the cattle feeder then hid down at the end with my rope. The cattle, having seen the roping thing before, stayed well back. They were not having any of it. After about 20 minutes, my deer showed up -- 3 of them. I picked out a likely looking one, stepped out from the end of the feeder, and threwmy rope. The deer just stood there and stared at me. I wrapped the rope around my waist and twisted the end so I would havea good hold. The deer still just stood and stared at me, but you couldtell it was mildly concerned about the whole rope situation. I took a step towards it...it took a step away. I put a little tensionon the rope and then received an education. The first thing that I learned is that, while a deer may just standthere looking at you funny while you rope it, they are spurred to action when you start pulling on that rope. That deer EXPLODED. The second thing I learned is that pound for pound, a deer is a LOT stronger than a cow or a colt. A cow or a colt in that weight range I could fight down with a rope and with some dignity. A deer-- no chance. That thing ran and bucked and twisted and pulled There was nocontrolling it and certainly no getting close to it. As it jerked me off my feetand started dragging me across the ground, it occurred to me that having a deer on a rope was not nearly as good an idea as I had originally imagined. The only upside is that they do not have as much stamina as many other animals. A brief 10 minutes later, it was tired and not nearly as quick to jerkme off my feet and drag me when I managed to get up. It took me a fewminutes to realize this, since I was mostly blinded by the blood flowing out of the big gash in my head. At that point, I had lost my taste for corn-fed venison. I just wanted to get that devil creature off the end of that rope. I figured if I just let it go with the rope hanging around its neck, it would likely die slow and painfully somewhere. At the time, there was no love at all between me and that deer. At that moment, I hated the thing, and I would venture a guess that the feeling was mutual. Despite the gash in my head and the several large knots where I had cleverly arrested the deer's momentum by bracing my head againstvarious large rocks as it dragged me across the ground, I could still think clearly enough to recognize that there was a small chance that I shared sometiny amount of responsibility for the situation we were in, so I didn't want the deer to have it suffer a slow death, so I managed to get it lined backup in between my truck and the feeder - a little trap I had set before hand...kind of like a squeeze chute. I got it to back in there and I started moving up so I could get myrope back. Did you know that deer bite? They do! I never in a million years would have thought that a deer would bite somebody, so I was very surprised when I reached up there to grab that rope and the deer grabbed hold of mywrist. Now, when a deer bites you, it is not like being bit by a horse wherethey just bite you and then let go. A deer bites you and shakes its head --almost like a pit bull. They bite HARD and it hurts. The proper thing to do when a deer bites you is probably to freeze and draw back slowly. I tried screaming and shaking instead. My method was ineffective. It seems like the deer was biting and shaking for several minutes, butit was likely only several seconds. I, being smarter than a deer (though you may be questioning that claimby now), tricked it. While I kept it busy tearing the bejesus out of my right arm, I reachedup with my left hand and pulled that rope loose. That was when I got myfinal lesson in deer behavior for the day. Deer will strike at you with their front feet. They rear right up ontheir back feet and strike right about head and shoulder level, and theirhooves are surprisingly sharp. I learned a long time ago that, when an animal -- like a horse--strikes at you with their hooves and you can't get away easily, the best thing todo is try to make a loud noise and make an aggressive move towards the animal. This will usually cause them to back down a bit so you can escape. This was not a horse. This was a deer, so obviously, such trickerywould not work. In the course of a millisecond, I devised a differentstrategy. I screamed like a woman and tried to turn and run. The reason I had always been told NOT to try to turn and run from ahorse that paws at you is that there is a good chance that it will hit you in the back of the head. Deer may not be so different from horses after all, besides being twiceas strong and 3 times as evil, because the second I turned to run, it hitme right in the back of the head and knocked me down. Now, when a deer paws at you and knocks you down, it does notimmediately leave. I suspect it does not recognize that the danger has passed. What they do instead is paw your back and jump up and down on you while youare laying there crying like a little girl and covering your head. I finally managed to crawl under the truck and the deer went away. So now I know why when people go deer hunting they bring a rifle with a scope so that they can be somewhat equal to the Prey.

Blog bog

so I have become a little disenchanted with blogging in general. Is it right to put so many personal things out on the internet? Hmmmm? I like that its like a free personal website. I guess I could always make it personal, where you would have to log in to see it.
I like it for the ease of keeping touch with family and friends who actually want to and care what is going on. Maybe I am just thinking about it too much. Feel free to comment and leave your opinion. later

Granny Morris's email quote

A quote fromPres. Hinckley "Some years ago I clipped an article on Commander WilliamRobert Anderson, the man who first took a submarine under the North Polefrom the waters of the Pacific to the waters of the Atlantic. It was an untried dangerous mission. In his wallet he carried a tattered card with these words:

"I believe I am always guided, I believe I will always take the right road. I believe God will always make a way where there is noway". "Be not afraid, only believe." Mark 5:36"

Happy Birthday Wyatt

Happy Bday Wyatt, now that you are lost in L.A. How will we ever find you. Ha Ha. I hope you have a good birthday tomarrow. I will never forget dropping you on your head as a baby. It has tramatized me forever.
I tried to get a picture of you as a kid, but noone has one sitting on their computer, lucky you.
